Czech Republic retail hours for Czech Statehood Day
On Monday, September 28, 2026, the Czech Republic celebrates Czech Statehood Day, a public holiday that will impact retail operations across the country.
Under the 2016 retail opening hours law, all stores with a sales area exceeding 200 square meters must remain closed. This includes major supermarket and hypermarket chains such as Albert, Billa, Globus, Kaufland, Lidl, Penny Market, and Tesco.
Exceptions to the closure include smaller shops under 200 square meters, gas stations, pharmacies, and retail outlets located at airports, railway stations, or bus stations. Additionally, Makro will remain open as it is classified as a wholesaler and is not subject to these specific retail regulations. Pawn shops, second-hand stores, and waste collection centers must remain closed regardless of their size.
