Czech Republic seeks public input for symbolic object to fly to ISS

The Czech Republic has launched a public call for proposals to select a symbolic object to be sent to the International Space Station (ISS). The project, titled ‘Czech Way to Space’, aims to involve the public in the upcoming mission of ESA project astronaut Aleš Svoboda, who is scheduled to fly next year.

Participants are encouraged to suggest small, lightweight, and safe items that represent Czech history, culture, scientific achievement, or traditions. Organizers emphasized that the object does not need to be valuable, but must carry a meaningful story. Due to the high costs of space transport and strict safety regulations, items must be compact and non-hazardous.

Selected proposals will be evaluated by experts from the European Space Agency (ESA). The chosen items may eventually be displayed in museums or schools to support educational efforts related to the mission. Submissions are open via the project website until September 18, 2026.
