Czech Republic Senate elections set for October 2026

The Czech Republic is preparing for Senate elections in October 2026, where one-third of the 81 senators will be replaced across 27 electoral districts. The first round is scheduled for October 9–10, 2026, with a potential second round following on October 16–17.

Recent data indicates a decline in political interest for the upper chamber. Only 154 candidates have registered for the upcoming elections, marking the second-lowest number in the Senate's 30-year history. This is a significant drop from the 235 candidates who ran six years ago.

Political strategies vary among parties. The ANO movement is submitting the highest number of candidates, while opposition parties like the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), Mayors and Independents (STAN), the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL), and TOP 09 are employing more selective, pragmatic approaches to maintain their influence in the chamber.
