Czech Republic to host commemorative hikes and runs
Several commemorative events are scheduled in the Czech Republic for mid-October 2026 to honor historical figures and the legacy of political prisoners.
In the Boletice military area, a guided hiking tour will take place on October 17. The 15-kilometer route will lead from Křišťanov through Ondřejov to the Chlum peak. The event serves as a memorial to priest František Jakeš. Due to the nature of the military zone, participants must follow strict safety protocols, including staying with the group and avoiding suspicious objects or unexploded ordnance.
On October 18, the ninth annual ‘Run for the Republic’ will be held near the Vojna Memorial near Příbram. Held under the auspices of President Petr Pavel, the event commemorates the anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia and honors those imprisoned in communist labor camps. This year’s run is dedicated to Antonín Sum, a resistance fighter and political prisoner. The event includes a 5-kilometer race, a children’s race, and a walking option for families.
