Czech Republic to increase truck toll rates in 2027
The Czech Ministry of Transport has proposed an increase in toll rates for heavy goods vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes, effective from July 2027. The plan aims to align Czech toll costs more closely with neighboring European countries to reduce excessive international transit through the country.
For the most common category of trucks over 12 tonnes, rates on highways are expected to rise by approximately 18.5 percent, from 5.96 CZK to 7.07 CZK per kilometer. On first-class roads, the increase is projected to be 26.6 percent. Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik stated that the measure is intended to address the strain on national infrastructure caused by a 15 percent increase in truck traffic on major transit highways since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ministry expects the rate hike to generate an additional 1.6 billion CZK in revenue in 2027, with annual revenues potentially increasing by approximately 4 billion CZK in subsequent years. These funds are earmarked for the financing of transport infrastructure. While truck costs will rise, the ministry noted that the increase will not affect buses.
