Czech Republic to update social benefit rules in October

Starting October 1, 2026, the Czech Republic will implement significant changes to the ‘superdávka’ social benefit system. According to the Labor Office, the amendment expands protection for vulnerable households by increasing the age limit for children of single parents from seven to 15 years. This change allows single parents with older children to be classified as vulnerable, potentially resulting in higher support and more favorable consideration of housing costs.

Additionally, the calculation of housing cost norms will shift from a system based on municipality size to one based on individual districts. This adjustment aims to more accurately reflect regional differences in rental prices across the country.

The update also coincides with an increase in the living minimum for individuals, which will rise from 4,860 CZK to 5,500 CZK. While these changes affect existing recipients during their regular October reassessments, they are not required to submit new applications. The final amount of support remains dependent on the specific income, assets, and family situation of each household.
