Czech Republic unemployment rate holds at 5% in August

The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic remained stable at 5% in August, matching July figures. However, the number of job seekers increased by 6,545 to a total of 373,891, while available job vacancies decreased by 1,658 to 99,274.

Analysts attribute this stability to offsetting seasonal factors: a decrease in recruitment due to summer holidays and the arrival of new graduates, balanced against continued seasonal demand in construction, agriculture, and tourism. Despite the rise in job seekers, Labor Minister Aleš Juchelka described the market as stable, noting the successful digitalization of services.

Regional disparities persist. In the Plzeň Region, unemployment rose slightly to 4.2%, while the South Moravian Region saw a rate of 5.5%. In the Ústí nad Labem Region, high competition for roles was noted, with Karviná recording 19.2 applicants per vacancy. Despite these shifts, many employers, particularly in logistics, trade, and the automotive sector, express optimism regarding recruitment plans for the final quarter of the year.
