Czech Republic unemployment rises to 5.0% in July

The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic rose to 5.0% in July, following seasonal trends such as the influx of recent graduates and a slowdown in hiring during the summer holiday period. Despite this increase, the labor market remains relatively tight, with the number of available job vacancies exceeding 100,000 positions.

Regional disparities persist across the country. The highest unemployment rates are recorded in the Ústí nad Labem and Moravian-Silesian regions, with specific districts like Karviná and Most seeing significantly higher figures. Conversely, Prague maintains the lowest unemployment rate at approximately 3.9%.

Economic analysts note a structural imbalance in the market; while there is high demand and labor shortages in technical, craft, and healthcare sectors, competition is much higher for administrative and retail roles. While the rise in unemployment is a seasonal occurrence, experts suggest the market remains in good condition due to the high volume of job openings.
