Czech Republic vehicle fleet nears 7 million milestone

The Czech Republic is approaching a major milestone in vehicle ownership, with the national passenger car fleet expected to exceed 7 million vehicles by the end of the year. As of June 2026, there were 6,940,271 registered passenger cars, leaving fewer than 60,000 vehicles to reach the 7 million mark.

Data from Cebia indicates that the growth rate is accelerating. In the first half of this year, 84,665 vehicles were added to the fleet. If this trend continues, the annual increase could exceed 170,000 vehicles, potentially rivaling the record growth seen in 2023.

With approximately 637 to 645 cars per 1,000 inhabitants, the Czech Republic remains one of the most highly motorized nations in the European Union, ranking 7th in the EU last year. For the economically active population, the ratio is approximately 1.28 cars per person. However, this growth is accompanied by an aging fleet; the average age of vehicles in the country has risen from 13.78 years in 2013 to 16.76 years in 2026.
