Czech Republic youth football team wins silver at U15/U16 World Championship
The Czech Republic national youth football team secured a silver medal at the U15/U16 World Championship held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Competing against 189 teams, the squad reached the final, where they ultimately lost 0:3 to Spain.
Key players from various Czech clubs contributed to the historic achievement. Notable participants included Bohumír Češka and Tomáš Václav Tichý from the Dynamo České Budějovice Academy, as well as Jan Kyklhorn, Ondřej Schwab, and Vladimír Žižka from Viktoria Plzeň.
Coach Karel Havlíček praised the team's performance, noting that while the intensity of the Spanish side was decisive in the final, finishing second in such a large global field is an exclusive result. The tournament format allowed teams to continue playing against similar ranked opponents even after losses in the playoff stages.
