Czech Republic's D3 Highway Near Completion as Rail Freight Expands into Germany and Austria

The final 3.2‑kilometre segment of the D3 motorway connecting Nažidla and Dolní Dvořiště on the Czech‑Austrian border is set to open in November, according to Radek Mátl, director of the Roads and Motorways Authority (ŘSD). The authority plans to bring the remaining six kilometres of the southern section into service next year, while the central Czech stretch of about 60 kilometres is targeted for completion by 2032.

Separately, Slovak carrier Railtrans International is expanding its freight operations into Germany and Austria under the leadership of managing director Michal Gajdoš. In a podcast interview, Gajdoš highlighted a pilot collaboration with Metrans Rail on the first joint domestic German routes and noted the company's recent investment in Romanian rail operator EP Rail, signalling broader Central‑European growth.
