Czech River Labe Water Levels Prompt Fishing Bans and Inspections

Members of the Czech Fishing Association and the Ústí nad Labem city police have intensified inspections along the Labe River, using drones and checking water quality, bank conditions and compliance with fishing regulations. Police spokesperson Jan Novotný highlighted concerns about low water levels, black waste deposits and potential barriers that could impede flood drainage.

In the Teplice district, a severe drop in water level has led to a temporary ban on fishing in the Pod 1 reservoir, with similar aeration devices installed at the nearby Modlanská reservoir to prevent oxygen depletion. Spokesperson Jan Skalský warned that high summer temperatures and sudden cooling could trigger massive fish die‑offs, as occurred last year when several tons of fish perished. Preventive fish removal is being considered for the most critical reservoirs.
