Czech security forces protest proposed salary increases
Security forces in the Czech Republic, including police, firefighters, customs officers, and prison services, are organizing a protest in Prague to demand better working conditions and higher wages. The Union of Security Forces has scheduled a march from the Police Headquarters to the Ministry of the Interior on September 30.
The protest follows dissatisfaction with the government's proposed salary increases. Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar announced a plan to raise monthly salaries for these personnel by 2,600 to 2,900 CZK over the next three years. However, unions argue this plan is insufficient, as a significant portion of the increase would be distributed as stabilization bonuses rather than being integrated into the base tariff.
Union representatives claim the proposed base salary increase of approximately 1,300 CZK represents less than a five percent raise for most members, and as little as two to three percent for experienced staff. They argue that the current measures fail to fulfill pre-election promises of substantial wage increases and regular indexation, noting that personnel shortages and the loss of experienced officers remain critical issues.
