Czech Senate candidates seek to abolish the upper house

Several candidates running for the Senate of the Czech Republic have expressed intentions to abolish the upper house if elected.

Petra Prokšanová, representing the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) for Prague 5, has described the Senate as a "black hole for money" and an "unnecessary repository for politicians." She stated her candidacy is aimed at being the person within the institution who works toward its dissolution, even suggesting she would work for minimum wage to redirect remaining funds to charity.

Similarly, Petra Rédová, running for the Stačilo! coalition in Znojmo, has voiced support for changing the constitutional system. Rédová described herself as "a fish prepared to drain its own pond," intending to vote for the Senate's abolition from within. She argued that such a move is necessary to prevent the upper house from being occupied by members of the former government and their political allies.
