Legislative disputes intensify in Czechia and Slovakia

Legislative bodies in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are facing significant political friction over several key reforms. In the Czech Republic, the Senate has rejected a controversial amendment to the building code, which critics labeled a ‘paskvil’ (travesty) that favors developers and centralizes authority. The Senate also rejected a proposal to change civil service employment rules, with opponents warning of political purges in state administration. Additionally, the Senate returned the proposal for reinstating electronic sales records (EET) to the Chamber of Deputies, proposing changes regarding cashless payments and tax benefits.

In Slovakia, the KDH political party has raised alarms regarding the management of emergency medical services (ZZS). They warn that a new model proposed by Health Minister Kamil Šaško could allow private hospital groups, specifically Penta and Agel, to gain control over up to 50 percent of the service without a transparent tender.

Separately, the Czech government is planning to transfer the Hrzánský Palace, currently used for representative purposes, to the Office for State Property Management within approximately one year to optimize state assets.
