Czech singer Bohuš Matuš warns of bank fraud targeting elderly

Singer Bohuš Matuš has publicly warned against sophisticated telephone scams after his mother lost 73,000 Czech koruna to fraudsters. The scammers reportedly posed as bank employees, claiming her account had been compromised to induce fear. Under their direction, the victim was guided to an ATM to withdraw the funds, which were subsequently stolen.

Matuš expressed frustration after the bank rejected a formal complaint regarding the incident. He urged the public to discuss these risks with elderly relatives, advising that anyone claiming an account is under attack should immediately hang up and call their bank using the official number found on their payment card.

In a similar incident, actor Aleš Háma reported being targeted by a highly coordinated two-hour scam attempt. The callers allegedly impersonated various entities, including Komerční banka, security departments of Česká spořitelna, and the National Cyber Security Authority, before being interrupted by Háma's son.
