Czech state museums and galleries to offer free entry on first Sundays

The Czech Ministry of Culture has announced that state-run galleries and museums will offer free admission to the public on the first Sunday of every month, starting September 6. This initiative, which is expected to continue through 2027, follows a successful spring pilot program.

Participating institutions include several sites from the National Gallery Prague, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Olomouc Museum of Art, the National Museum, and the Moravian Museum. Other participating locations include the Silesian Museum, the State Museum of Glass and Jewelry in Jablonec nad Nisou, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, and the Museum of Romani Culture.

Minister of Culture Oto Klempíř stated that the program aims to make culture accessible to a wider audience, expanding upon previous government promises to provide free access specifically for seniors, children, and people with disabilities by offering it to everyone.

In anticipation of free entry days previously announced for August 30 and September 27, which cover state castles and chateaus, several sites have already reported high demand. In the Moravian-Silesian Region, tours at Dole Michal and Hradec nad Moravice castle have sold out via online reservation systems.
