Czech summer culture features architectural history and outdoor festivals

Prague and its surrounding regions are hosting various cultural and architectural highlights this summer. Architectural historian Adam Štěch is exploring the phenomenon of functionalist cottages from the 1930s. His work, which includes an exhibition titled ‘Chata – Fenomén ve světě architektury’ (Cottage – A Phenomenon in the World of Architecture) at the Museum of Decorative Arts, examines avant-garde and modernist recreational structures from the First Republic and the post-war period. One notable example is a wooden prefabricated cottage in Zlenice designed by architect František Kavalír.

Additionally, summer programming includes outdoor cinema screenings, such as a showing of the Studio Ghibli animated film ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ in Uhříněves. Other local events include family activities at Park u Čeňku, the Gutovka festival in Prague 10, and the ‘Hradozámecká noc’ (Castle Night) event, where dozens of castles and monuments across the Czech Republic remain open for nighttime tours.
