Jiráskův Hronov theatre festival runs July 31–August 8 with 150 performances

The Jiráskův Hronov festival, the longest‑running amateur theatre event in the Czech Republic, will take place from 31 July to 8 August. The nine‑day programme features almost 150 performances by around 80 ensembles, including Czech amateur groups, two guest companies from Slovakia and three professional troupes such as Divadlo Drak. Free events – concerts, street shows and workshops – are also scheduled, with more than 60 activities offered without charge.

Festival director Šárka Čmelíková says the event is “not only a showcase of the best amateur productions, but also a meeting place for theatre makers, experts and the public, a space for education, inspiration and exchange of experience.” The opening ceremony on 31 July will include the raising of the festival flag and lighting of the Lucerna of Friendship, followed by a concert by the Prima Jazz Band.
