Summer Shakespeare Festival launches with 'Comedy of Errors' premiere at Prague Castle

The 29th season of the Summer Shakespeare Festival opened on 24 June with the premiere of Comedy of Errors at the Prague Castle. Directed by Vojtěch Štěpánek, the production alternates lead roles between Marek Adamczyk and Tomáš Havlínk and features a large Czech cast that includes Sára Rychlíková, Aneta Krejčíková, and others. The festival will run until 5 September, presenting roughly 150 performances across Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Bratislava, and includes three new premieres such as Twelfth Night (in English with Czech subtitles) and a Slovak version of Much Ado About Nothing. The opening attracted many Czech entertainment figures: pregnant actress Kristýna Leichtová, actress Eva Čížková, journalist Libuše Šmuclerová with her daughter, moderator Kristina Kloubková, and actor Jan Vondráček, among others. Media coverage also highlighted the event’s fashion side, noting Leichtová’s maternity dress, Čížková’s refreshed look, and Veronika Arichteva’s stylish black ensemble. The festival continues to be a major cultural draw in the Czech Republic and neighboring Slovakia.
