Colours of Ostrava festival endures rain, showcases top acts and political dialogue
The four‑day Colours of Ostrava music festival in the Czech Republic faced heavy rain that flooded parts of the venue, prompting organizers to advise attendees to bring rain‑proof clothing while the program continued.
Festival visitors could sample a wide range of international street food, from Asian momo and Pad Thai to Mexican tacos and Mediterranean dishes, highlighting the event’s culinary diversity.
The closing day featured performances by American singer Teddy Swims and Canadian electro‑punk artist Peaches, with ticket pre‑sales for the next edition already announced. Other headline acts included Lorde, who made her first Czech appearance, and Peaches, whose show was described as shocking and politically charged.
President Petr Pavel took part in the festival’s Meltingpot forum, emphasizing that culture can bridge societal divides. He also warned that, as head of state, he could make life harder for the government by vetoing legislation or influencing ambassadorial appointments.
Overall, the festival combined weather challenges, diverse cuisine, high‑profile concerts and a rare political discussion on a cultural stage.
