Czech survey finds men prioritize looks, women value personality

A large online poll conducted by Deník.cz between 1 June and 5 July 2026 surveyed 9,632 Czech adults about partner preferences and sexual satisfaction. The results show a clear gender split: 71 % of respondents say personality matters more than appearance, while 18 % prioritize looks. Men are more likely than women to rate physical appearance as the main factor, whereas women place greater weight on character. Overall, 76 % of participants want a combination of "soul and body" in a partner, and sexual attraction was cited as the primary consideration by 51 % of respondents.

Compared with a similar 2019 poll, the emphasis on personality fell from 83 % to 71 %, and the importance of sexual attraction decreased slightly. About 40 % of those surveyed are satisfied with their current sexual life, with women reporting higher satisfaction than men. One‑third of respondents would like more sexual activity from their partner, especially those aged 30–49, while senior participants expressed the greatest dissatisfaction.

Respondents also discussed the timing of first sexual experience: the ideal age is generally seen as 17–18 years, though many started later. The legal age for consensual sex in the Czech Republic is 15. Researchers note that younger people today tend to date less, citing digital substitution of social contact, anxiety and loneliness as contributing factors.
