Czech survey reveals 40% of people cope with mental distress alone
A survey conducted by psychotherapy platform Hedepy and research agency Ipsos found that 40 % of Czech respondents try to manage mental‑health problems without professional help. The study highlighted widespread stigma: 25 % of participants feared a negative reaction from others, while 22 % each said they could not describe their feelings or did not want to be a burden.
One respondent, 42‑year‑old Pavlína from Prague, described long‑term depressive symptoms and how her husband dismissed her concerns, saying he had "not noticed anything." A friend’s attempt to advise her with meditation and anecdotes offered little relief. The findings suggest that fear of judgment and misunderstanding continue to drive many Czechs to keep their mental‑health struggles private.
The survey underscores the need for greater awareness and supportive environments to encourage people to seek professional assistance rather than relying solely on self‑management.
