Czech Television re-airs historical series ‘Vlak dětství a naděje’
Czech Television has recently re-aired the 1985 legendary series ‘Vlak dětství a naděje’ (Train of Childhood and Hope), directed by Karla Kachyna. The series depicts the experiences of an ordinary Czech borderland family, illustrating the psychological and physical attacks faced by Czech and Jewish residents in the border regions during the late 1930s and the subsequent German occupation.
The series is noted for its objective portrayal of the events of 1938 and the years of Nazi occupation, avoiding heroization or modern attempts at conciliatory distortion. The commentary suggests the series provides a historically accurate understanding of the role of Sudeten Germans in the breakup of the first Czechoslovak Republic.
