Czech Television seeks 4 million CZK compensation from former board members for illegal dismissal of supervisory board

Czech Television (ČT) is pursuing approximately 4 million Czech crowns in damages from ten current and former board members who in 2020 voted to unlawfully dismiss the broadcaster's supervisory board. The claim, based on a 2022 Supreme Court ruling that holds the board liable, seeks roughly 400,000 crowns from each member. ČT has issued a pre‑lawsuit notice to the former members, including Luboš Veselý, Vladimír Karmazín and Jiří Šlégr, and says it will proceed with standard fiduciary procedures, possibly initiating court action.

ČT’s spokesperson Radek Konečný said the broadcaster will recover the losses incurred after the dismissed supervisors were forced to pay compensation. Some of the implicated members, such as former chairman Pavel Matocha, have contested the claim, arguing that the dismissal was justified under legal advice obtained by ČT in 2020. The matter was previously addressed by the Supreme Administrative Court, which annulled the board’s decision, and a Prague municipal court awarded damages to the dismissed supervisors.
