Czech theater premieres new productions and rediscovered works
The Czech theater scene is seeing several notable premieres. Dejvické divadlo has staged a new production titled ‘Varování’ (Warning), based on previously unperformed fragments of a play by former President Václav Havel. The materials were discovered in a box of papers belonging to the late dissident Zdeněk Urbánek and were developed under the direction of Jiří Havelka.
Těšínské divadlo’s children's stage, Bajka, premiered a detective play for kids titled ‘Kulička’ (The Little Ball). Directed by Braňo Mazúch, the play uses a dung beetle character to teach children about nature and curiosity through an interactive detective story.
Additionally, a new mountain comedy titled ‘Pod Sněžkou’ is in development. Directed by Jiří Matoušek and produced by Bratři, the film features Jan Nedbal and Lukáš Příkazký. The story focuses on the rivalry between two mountain businesses and is scheduled for theatrical release in late January 2027.
