Czech theatre season kicks off with Kladno's new lineup and Plzeň International Festival
The Municipal Theatre in Kladno announced its 2026/2027 programme, themed “First aid against boredom”. Director Tomáš V. Hron said the season will use the emergency‑call number 112 as a metaphor for culture’s role in offering escape and relief. Five new productions will debut: the comedy Petr Pan, a Czech premiere of Revizor, an adaptation of Spalovač mrtvol, the horror Ghost Stories, and the romance Milostné dopisy.
From 9 to 17 September, Plzeň will host the 34th International Festival Divadlo. The event will feature two Polish companies – Nowy Teatr presenting Elizabeth Costello and Teatr Śląski with Tkalci – and two French productions, including Samuel Achache’s Bez fanfár and Philippe Quesne’s Johnův paradox. Czech ensembles from Brno, Liberec, Ostrava, Plzeň and other cities will also showcase a diverse slate of new works.
Both programmes highlight a strong season of new Czech, Polish and French theatrical offerings, underscoring the region’s vibrant cultural calendar.
