Czech Tourists Favor Domestic Summer Vacations Amid Travel Uncertainty

A recent survey by CzechTourism shows that 77 % of Czech residents plan to spend their summer holidays within the country, a rise of 12 percentage points from last year. Respondents cite safety, flexibility and control over travel conditions as key reasons for choosing local destinations such as the Krkonoše, Beskydy and Šumava mountains, as well as wine regions and spa towns.

The most popular activities include hiking, cycling, water sports and short wellness stays, with many travellers combining recreation, gastronomy and cultural visits. On average, respondents expect to spend about 10 447 CZK on a domestic holiday, roughly half of which will go to accommodation—primarily pensions and three‑plus‑star hotels. A smaller share of the budget will cover transport and dining.

By contrast, only half of the respondents intend to travel abroad, a drop of eight points, with Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain and Slovakia remaining the top foreign destinations. The survey also notes that while price remains important, comfort and service quality are increasingly decisive for Czech holidaymakers.
