Czech tourists keep foreign travel plans despite Middle East tensions, turn to domestic caves

A survey for ERGO Travel Insurance shows that 40 % of Czechs intend to travel abroad this year, with geopolitical tension having little impact – only 17 % cite security concerns. The leading worries are weather (35 %), health issues before departure (30 %) and illness or injury during the trip (28 %). Travel insurance is promoted as a way to mitigate these risks.

Domestic tourism is booming as more than three‑quarters of Czech residents plan to spend the summer at home. The Czech cave administration opened dozens of karst caves earlier for the season, offering cool temperatures around 8 °C and family‑friendly ticket discounts. “We want to accommodate families with two or three children,” said director Milan Jan Půček. The increased domestic offering provides an alternative to overseas trips, especially given the lingering unease over the situation in the Middle East.

Overall, Czech travellers remain eager to holiday, shifting preferences toward local attractions while still maintaining a strong desire for foreign vacations.
