Czech towns weigh waste disposal sites and heat‑network plans

Municipal leaders in Strakonice received initial information on how to handle waste after 2030, following the termination of a joint incineration project with Písek. The city is negotiating options, including the possible use of the ZEVO Vráto landfill near České Budějovice, but no contract has been finalized. Director of Technical Services Ludvík Němec emphasized that discussions are at an early stage, while Mayor Břetislav Hrdlička stressed the need to set clear waste volumes and contractual terms before any agreement is signed.

At a HeatCoop round‑table, representatives from energy, public administration, finance and construction discussed how municipal heat networks can support low‑emission heating for Czech towns. Participants highlighted the potential of using waste heat, heat from data centres and shared infrastructure to decarbonise urban heating, citing examples from recent projects and noting regulatory and financial challenges that smaller community schemes face.
