Czech municipalities gear up for 2026 local elections
Municipal elections across the Czech Republic are scheduled for 9‑10 October 2026. Voters will elect city councils ranging from 21 members in Beroun to 47 in Plzeň, and choose mayors who will lead the towns for the next four years. Major parties – ANO, ODS, KDU‑ČSL, TOP 09, Pirates, STAN and regional groups such as Naše Česko and Motoristé – have already presented candidate lists in dozens of municipalities.
Incumbent mayors are seeking re‑election in several cities: Petr Ryška (ODS) in Jihlava, Jiří Anděl (ANO) in Děčín, Milan Volf (Volba pro Kladno) in Kladno and Martin Mrkos (Žďár – Živé Město) in Žďár nad Sázavou. Councils will also decide on large municipal budgets, from about 1 billion CZK in Beroun to more than 2 billion CZK in Děčín, covering services, infrastructure and investment projects. Historical turnout has hovered around 40‑45 percent, indicating moderate voter engagement.
