Czech towns Chomutov and Polička undergo urban renewal

Several Czech towns are undergoing significant urban renewal projects focused on public spaces and historical preservation.

In Chomutov, the city is preparing to revitalize its central park. The project aims to improve lighting, pathways, and greenery while restoring a non-functional brutalist fountain and a lake. The design intends to respect the original 1970s landscape architecture by Ivar Otruba. Construction is expected to take place between 2027 and 2028, with parts of the project funded by subsidies.

In Polička, the Bohuslav Martinů square has been reconstructed following a six-year preparation period. The renovation, costing over 47 million CZK, included replacing utility networks and installing water elements, such as a stream flowing from a bronze fountain. The square also features a new statue of the composer, created by sculptor Petr Váňa, to honor the local connection to the musician.
