Czech towns complete new pedestrian walkways improving safety

The town of Bohumín finished a 0.25‑kilometre asphalt pedestrian path along the I/67 bypass, linking Polní and Úvozní streets in the Skřečoně district. After initial plans were blocked by the state over land‑lease costs, the municipality rerouted the walkway onto private parcels, securing a lower purchase price and completing construction in July, with final works finishing in early August. Residents now have a safe alternative to the busy highway.

In Český Krumlov, a heavily used trail along the Polečnice was reopened after extensive reconstruction. Geological surveys revealed unstable subsoil, requiring redesign of the gabion retaining wall, while a main water‑line intersected the work site, prompting a simultaneous replacement of the pipe. The project, carried out by IRO stavební, cost nearly CZK 5 million for the wall and CZK 6.1 million for the water‑line, and added new lighting and steel railings. The trail is now accessible to walkers and cyclists.
