Czech towns Mělník and Skvrňany launch major sports facility projects

The town of Mělník is moving forward with plans to build a modern, multi‑purpose sports hall costing over 140 million CZK. The window‑less arena will accommodate basketball, handball, volleyball, futsal and other indoor sports, and will feature a photovoltaic power system, heat recovery, a flexible floor and equipment for live broadcasting. The project is now at the stage of selecting a designer after completing architectural and technical studies.

In the nearby village of Skvrňany, a feasibility study for a new swimming pool, budgeted at roughly one million CZK, has been postponed because an appropriate site has not been identified. Local officials have indicated that the delay is tied to finding a suitable location for the pool.

Both initiatives illustrate the Czech municipalities’ efforts to expand public sports infrastructure and improve facilities for local clubs, schools and the wider community.
