Czech towns revitalize public spaces with children's chalk art and a DIY treehouse
In Žďár nad Sázavou, the parish of St. Procop organized a project that invited children to colour the newly paved courtyard of the church with chalk drawings. The activity, led by Lenka Šustrová, turned the grey pavement into a vibrant display of flowers, people and houses, drawing positive feedback from locals and visitors.
In the nearby village of Prštice, Roman Partyka built a multi‑level treehouse on an old stump, adding a slide, climbing net, rope bridge and solar‑powered lights. Constructed mainly from recycled pallets and other reclaimed materials, the DIY playground offers a creative outdoor space for children of various ages.
Both initiatives illustrate how small Czech communities are using low‑cost, participatory projects to enliven public areas and provide recreational opportunities for families.
