Czech transport infrastructure fund to reach record 183 billion CZK

The State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) is set to reach a record budget of 183.1 billion CZK next year, an increase of 13.8 billion CZK compared to the current year. The allocation includes 87 billion CZK for the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) and nearly 78 billion CZK for the Railway Administration (SŽ).

The Transport Union has called for a multi-year financial outlook of up to five years to allow for more effective investment planning. Romana Šauerová, president of the Transport Union, noted that without long-term certainty, major agencies and construction companies cannot reliably plan capacities or prepare projects in advance. The union warned that sudden budget increases in the past have led to rising construction costs because suppliers were unprepared for the surge in demand.

As European funds are being depleted, the state's share in financing transport infrastructure is expected to increase. While the heads of ŘSD and SŽ stated that current funds are sufficient to continue ongoing projects and launch new ones by 2027, opposition members have called for clearer project priorities.
