Czech Triathletes Qualify for Ironman World Championship in Hawaii

Czech triathlete Jan Tománek secured a spot at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii by winning the sole European qualifying race in Luxembourg. The swim segment was cancelled due to poor water quality, forcing athletes to start with the bike leg, where Tománek built a decisive lead over Italy's Ivan Territi. He emphasized careful pacing in tropical heat and tested new cooling and nutrition strategies ahead of the Hawaiian race.

Veteran triathlete Dana Hyláková, aged 65‑69, earned a bronze medal at the European Championship in Spain and also qualified for the Hawaii event. The race faced extreme temperatures; organizers shortened the run by one lap, and Hyláková battled a lingering plantar fasciitis injury while coping with water temperatures near 30 °C and road temperatures approaching 60 °C. She finished third, confirming her place at the Ironman World Championship scheduled for 10 October.
