Czech universities hold blood and bone marrow donation drives

Universities in the Czech Republic are conducting blood and bone marrow donation drives to support regional medical facilities.

At Palacký University Olomouc, the ‘Roll Up Your Sleeve’ challenge is in its sixth year. The initiative includes a drive to register new bone marrow donors alongside traditional blood donation. Officials from the Olomouc University Hospital emphasized the growing need for blood products to support expanding surgical capacities and oncological treatments.

In Ostrava, the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava celebrated the tenth anniversary of its ‘Mining Drop of Blood’ initiative. The drive, which began as a student project at the Faculty of Economics, has grown into a decade-long tradition involving various faculties. This year’s event was patronized by Matěj Šín, a student and professional footballer playing in the Dutch Eredivisie.
