Czech universities open new research and teaching facilities

Czech academic institutions have inaugurated new facilities dedicated to specialized research and education.

The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (ČZU) has opened Lesovna in Suchdol, a new research and teaching building constructed primarily from wood. Costing over 49 million CZK, the facility serves as a ‘living laboratory’ equipped with sensors to monitor structural behavior, humidity, and temperature. The building aims to integrate teaching with practical wood construction research.

In Ostrava, the University of Ostrava has opened the LERCO research center, a project costing nearly two billion CZK. Supported largely by the Just Transition Operational Program, the center focuses on nine research programs, including molecular biology, genomics, oncology, neurorehabilitation, and the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The project is part of a broader regional transformation intended to bolster innovation and attract international experts to the Moravian-Silesian Region.
