Czech veterinarians confirm Trichinella parasite in Hungarian wild boar

Veterinary experts in the Czech Republic have confirmed the presence of the dangerous parasite Trichinella in a wild boar imported from Hungary. The animal was part of a shipment of 65 wild boars delivered to a game meat processing plant in the Karlovy Vary region.

The presence of the parasite was confirmed through testing at the State Veterinary Institute in Prague. The affected wild boar has since been safely disposed of, and no parasites were found in the other animals from the same shipment.

The State Veterinary Administration (SVS) reminded the public and hunters of the mandatory requirement to test all hunted wild boar for trichinellosis. Trichinellosis is a disease caused by the Trichinella parasite that can be transmitted to humans through the consumption of inadequately cooked meat, potentially leading to severe illness or death.
