Czech villages plan lawsuit over proposed wind turbine acceleration zone

The Czech government approved an acceleration zone in the Lomy area near Knínice, covering 1,207 hectares and potentially allowing the construction of more than 30 wind turbines. Twenty‑one neighbouring municipalities, including Knínice, Radkovice u Budče, Třebelovice, Želetava and Lomy, submitted objections, arguing the project would destroy the cultural agricultural landscape, reduce arable land and mar the scenery.

Local officials, such as councilor Stanislav Veselý and mayor Jana Frühaufová, said the decision was made “without us” and pledged to continue fighting, including filing a lawsuit against the state. The government defends its action as a “minimalist version” of the original plan, but the municipalities remain determined to protect their region.

The dispute highlights tensions between renewable‑energy development and rural preservation in the Czech Republic.
