Czech water utilities launch major infrastructure and resource investments

Water utility companies in the Czech Republic are undertaking significant investments to secure drinking water supplies and modernize infrastructure.

Vodárny Kladno – Mělník plans to invest over one billion CZK to build a new water intake and treatment plant directly from the Vltava River near its confluence with the Labe. The project aims to secure up to 250 liters of water per second to meet the growing demand from the increasing population in the Central Bohemian region and around Prague. The company is currently preparing to purchase the necessary land and aims to obtain building permits within five years.

In Northern Bohemia, the Severočeská voda group has invested over one hundred million CZK in 2025 to protect water sources and address pollution risks. The group is also focusing on reducing water loss through pipeline repairs and increasing energy self-sufficiency. They currently utilize 14 small hydroelectric plants, 13 photovoltaic plants, and 10 cogeneration units to cover approximately one-quarter of their annual energy consumption through renewable sources.
