Czech weddings shift to smaller, eco‑friendly, multi‑day celebrations

In the Czech Republic, wedding ceremonies are moving away from the large, single‑day events of the past toward more intimate gatherings of 40‑60 guests. Couples are favouring venues such as barns, farms, mills and industrial spaces, and they increasingly prioritize sustainability by sourcing seasonal flowers locally and minimising single‑use plastics.

Catering has also changed: a buffet or "rauta" format now accounts for about 70 % of wedding meals, replacing the traditional sit‑down menus that dominated a decade ago. At the same time, multi‑day wedding weekends are gaining popularity, offering welcome receptions, the ceremony, and a joint breakfast, often complemented by wellness options such as saunas, yoga, and spa treatments. A survey by The Knot reports that 71 % of weddings now last two to three days, with couples focusing on guest comfort and memorable experiences rather than sheer scale. Some couples are also trimming guest lists to allocate resources toward these expanded programmes.
