Czech Youth Choir Carmína Wins Two First Prizes at World of Choirs Festival in Italy
The 60‑member youth choir Carmína from České Budějovice represented the Czech Republic at the World of Choirs festival in Rimini, Italy. Competing against choirs from Sweden, Lithuania, Greece, the United States, Turkey, France, Bulgaria and other countries, Carmína entered three categories for the first time.
The choir won first prize in the folklore category, showcasing traditional costumes and choreography, and also secured first prize in the youth choir (under‑25) group. In the world spiritual music category it earned a second‑place award. A solo drum performance accompanied by concert pianist Sergei Perepeliatnyk was highlighted during the program. Financial support for the trip came from the city of České Budějovice and the South Bohemian region. Carmína, now in its 21st year, has previously collected ten Grand Prix awards at international competitions and is preparing a gala concert in June back in the Czech Republic.
