Czechia and Slovakia introduce new family financial supports

New social welfare measures have been introduced in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to support families with children.

In the Czech Republic, the state has launched a new allowance for student parents. Eligible parents of young children who are enrolled in full-time higher education or vocational programs can apply for monthly support of 7,467 CZK. This benefit is intended to cover childcare costs, such as nurseries or nannies, to prevent students from abandoning their studies. Eligibility is tied to the receipt of parental benefits and includes specific age and program requirements.

In Slovakia, parents of children entering their first year of primary school will receive an increased child allowance of 170 EUR. This amount consists of the standard 60 EUR monthly allowance plus a one-time 110 EUR supplement to help cover school supplies and initial educational costs. The payment is processed automatically by the authorities based on school enrollment data, with funds expected to reach parents in October.
