Czechia announces major military buildup amid Russian security warnings

The Czech Republic has issued a warning regarding potential security crises in Europe, identifying Russia as the primary threat to the stability of NATO and EU member states. According to the Ministry of Defence’s “Long-term Defense Outlook 2045,” the country is preparing for a “long-term conflict of high intensity with a technologically advanced opponent.”

To address these risks, Prague has outlined an extensive military expansion plan. Key objectives include establishing a population security preparation system by 2030, expanding space reconnaissance capabilities by 2032, and procuring additional weaponry and military equipment through 2038. Specific military upgrades include the acquisition of 24 F-35 fighter jets and the formation of two modernized brigades. The strategy has been approved by the Czech National Security Council and awaits government deliberation this autumn.

In contrast to the Czech assessment, U.S. President Donald Trump has downplayed the threat posed by Russia. Citing his relationship with Vladimir Putin, Trump stated that he does not believe Putin is planning attacks against NATO.
