Czechia expands healthcare access via new clinics and mobile units

The South Bohemian Region is addressing specialist shortages by opening two new ophthalmology clinics in České Budějovice. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026, these facilities will provide care for adults and children aged five and older. Additionally, a new ophthalmologist from the České Budějovice hospital will move to the Písek region in early 2027 to replace a retiring specialist, preventing a gap in local care.

On a national level, the Czech Ministry of Health is proposing legislation to introduce mobile medical units by 2029. These specially equipped vehicles would serve as a supplement to traditional clinics, providing both primary and specialized outpatient care. The initiative aims to reach patients in locations where home care is insufficient due to hygiene or equipment requirements, similar to the Public Health bus model used by the NHS in the United Kingdom.
