Czechia prepares for Senate and municipal elections

Czechia is preparing for upcoming Senate and municipal elections. A key focus of the political landscape is whether the ANO movement, led by Andrej Babiš, can secure a majority in the 81-member Senate.

The elections feature several notable candidates and political shifts. Margita Balaštíková, a former ANO member who was removed from the party following a controversy involving an alleged attempt to have a partner's dog killed, is running for the Senate in the Uherské Hradiště district under the new Odvážné Česko banner. Additionally, Marek Obrtel, a former military doctor who once commanded a Czech contingent in Afghanistan but later criticized NATO, is a candidate in Přerov.

In the Senate, several seats are up for rotation, including the Prague 7 district. Miroslava Němcová of the ODS party is not defending her mandate, marking her departure from parliamentary politics.
