Czechoslovak pressed glass becomes highly valued collector item
Czechoslovak pressed glass, once a common household item, has transitioned from routine decor to highly sought-after collector's pieces. An exhibition by the Ministry of Culture at the Museum of Glass and Jewelry highlights the significance of this era of production, which spanned from 1948 to 1989.
While many pieces were mass-produced for both domestic and foreign markets, the involvement of professional designers such as Rudolf Schrötter and Adolf Matura elevated the quality of the items. The manufacturer Sklounion was a dominant force in the industry during the latter half of the 20th century.
Collectors now look for specific names and manufacturer marks to determine value. For instance, works by František Vízner have seen significant market interest; a 32-centimeter tall vase from Škrdlovice by Vízner recently sold for 17,000 CZK on the Aukro auction site.
