Zoo Łączna crisis: Police officer charged and expert resigns
The investigation into the private Zoo Łączna in Poland has escalated following several developments. A police officer, Katarzyna S., has been charged with obstruction of justice after a recorded phone call revealed she warned Marcin N., a representative of the zoo, about an upcoming police and prosecutor intervention. Following her admission of guilt, she has been suspended from duty and placed under police supervision.
Simultaneously, animal welfare expert Dr. Marta Zając-Ossowska announced her resignation from coordinating animal care at the facility. She cited a lack of legal clarity and failure by authorities to formalize her status as the reason for her withdrawal.
The District Prosecutor's Office in Świdnica has taken over the investigation, which originally began following allegations of animal abuse and improper living conditions. While 33 animals were previously removed from the site, local officials and supporters have expressed concerns regarding the continuity of care and the management of the facility.
